Dr Lucia Porta Cubas
B.Psych (Hon); MBBS; DCH; M.Psych, FRANZCP

Dr Lucia Porta Cubas is an Australian trained general psychiatrist with a special interest in perinatal and women’s mental health.
She has been providing perinatal psychiatric care for several over 10 years. She has worked in many different districts and has a wide experience of psychiatry with over 15 years experience in mental health.
She graduated from the University of Sydney post-graduate medical degree and completed a psychology degree prior to medicine.
She is fluent in Spanish and has a good understanding of the migrant’s experience and the transitions required, having completed a masters of psychiatry with a research project on the experience of migrants in Australia.
As a parent of three young children she has personal experience of being a mother in today’s world and the role transitions that are required during this life phase.
Dr Porta Cubas is an advocate of her patients and provides her expertise in a collaborative way with the aim of recovery and wellbeing. Utilising medications where indicated but also ensuring that psychological techniques and other supports are enlisted to ensure holistic care is provided. Involving other care providers and collaborating with other specialists such as GPs and Obstetricians as well as psychologists and child and family nurses.

Booking a consultation
Books are closed until March 2023
In order to get a consultation you will require a referral letter from your General Practitioner or Specialist and this this will need to be sent by argus by GP, faxed to 42080486 or emailed to admin@illawarrawomensmentalhealth.com
Please allow a week for Dr Porta Cubas to review the referral. Please call the clinic after a week, if you would like to organise an appointment.
In some situations Dr Porta Cubas may not be able to see you as she may not be the best consultant for your needs.
The consultation is associated with a fee, medicare will refund a part of it.
Initial consultations will be 60-90 minutes and preconception planning consults can take up to 90 minutes.
Please note that a it may take a few sessions to make a comprehensive assessment.
